Just checked the new Spectrum out from the local Library. Once again it's a gorgeus book that makes me feel utterly inadequate as an illustrator. Have to buy myself a copy once I can afford to and dissect it in a sketchbook. See if any skill can be stol...er..stumbed upon ;) .

Been wondering if I should do some edgier work lately. When I look at my own work it seems so generic and static (At least some of that might be from the Spectrum board giving the annual masters' award to Giger, which serves to remind me how utterly badass he is.)

Anyway I have some new work in the wings I'm working on, and may throw some of the sketches up in scraps later.

Its a pleasure to see those great art - but sometimes I really wonder, what some paintings "have" that they got in, but guess thats all very subjective...:D

See, I feel inadequate with looking at most art books, but usually it makes me feel like saying "oh yeah? I'll show you" instead of "well, never going to make it there". ;)

I really enjoy the Spectrum books. Like you I often feel inadequate after looking through those pages, but it also is inspiring and gives me a (unattainable) goal to shoot for as well. Studying the old masters is a great way to learn however, so studying the new masters should be as well.
